Lymphedema is an abnormal swelling that is caused by a build up of lymph fluid in the body's tissues. Cancer surgery or radiation therapy may sometimes lead to lymphedema. This group-based patient education session provides an overview of lymphedema, its signs and symptoms, tips for reducing the risk of developing lymphedema, and strategies for managing the condition.
This event is open to all Odette cancer patients that have had surgery to remove cancer and/or lymph nodes, have undergone radiation therapy, or would like to learn more about lymphedema.

This nutrition class is for patients and their care providers. It is taught by a Registered Dietitian from the Odette Cancer Centre and will focus on the importance of good nutrition during treatment and provide tips on healthy eating and managing side-effects. Other topics such as dietary supplements, antioxidants, and food safety guidelines will be addressed.

Attention all Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) graduates and families!
This year's Preemie Picnic will be held on Sunday, June 24, from noon until 4 p.m.. We'll have crafts, a bouncy castle, games and lots of food. It's a great chance to see old friends and celebrate miracles and milestones together. It's in McLean House Park, just north of the hospital, in the same location as last year's picnic.

Institute will be hosting an international workshop on Cardiac Tissue
Characterization and Image Based Models in association with the Fields-Mitacs Summer Research School on Mathematics
of Medical Imaging. This workshop aims to gather more than 100
participants actively involved in the cardiac field. Students, postdoctoral
fellows, researchers, faculty and industry partners are welcome to attend.
The Fields-Mitacs Summer Research School on Mathematics of Medical Imaging
will be held July 3 to July 31, 2012 at the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical
Sciences in Toronto. Students and postdoctoral fellows can participate in both
events. The summer school program will have three weeks of lectures followed by
one-week research projects. Mitacs will offer financial support towards
travelling and lodging for the workshop's keynote speakers and selected
students and fellows enrolled in the program.
