Geriatric neuropsychiatry

A caregiver works with one of our WWII veterans, Irene. Irene is lucid, sharp, and has no neuropsychological problems.

The geriatric neuropsychiatry: driving and brain injury group is part of the evaluative clinical sciences platform at Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI). We work under the direction of Dr. Mark Rapoport who is a geriatric neuropsychiatrist at the department of psychiatry at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Our group engages in clinical research focused on neuropsychiatric sequelae of traumatic brain injury and driving safety in the geriatric population.

We conduct the following types of studies:

  • Clinical trials for treatment in the brain injury population
  • Drug trials on driving safety using driving simulators

Epidemiological studies using large population-wide databases to assess associations between illnesses and medications, and risks of motor vehicle collisions
