Severe OCD

Eligibility Criteria

Wait Times (Approximate)

Severe OCD

MD to MD Phone Consultation & Psychiatric Consultation and Care

Province wide

  • Age is between 18-65 years
  • Principal diagnosis is OCD (if there are comorbidities, OCD must be disorder that causes the greatest amount of daily impairment)
  • Symptoms must be judged as severe
  • Patient's functioning is severely impaired
  • OCD symptoms must be treatment resistant. Specifically, the illness has not responded to:
    • 1 or more SSRIs AND
    • 1 or more trial of clomipramine or SNRI (Effexor, Pristiq) OR
    • 1 or more augmentation agent (atypical antipsychotics, memantine, or topiramate) * AND
    • 1 trial of evidence-based CBT* OR
    • Inability to access CBT locally
  • Patient must have GP and ideally a therapist in their community willing to provide ongoing medication management and therapy.

*If your patient does not fit our criteria but you feel they should be seen by the Thompson Centre, please explain in the form as indicated.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Current psychotic symptoms
  • Current active suicidality
  • Current active trauma-related symptoms
  • Current active anorexia nervosa
  • Active substance dependence/abuse (within the last 6 months)

Referring Physician to review and complete

4-6 weeks

Severe OCD
Day Treatment Program

Canada

  • Age is between 18-65 years
  • Principal diagnosis is OCD (if there are comorbidities, OCD must be disorder that causes the greatest amount of daily impairment)
  • Symptoms must be judged as severe 
  • Patient's functioning is severely impaired
  • OCD symptoms must be treatment resistant. Specifically, the illness has not responded to:
    • 2 or more SSRIs AND
    • 1 or more trial of clomipramine or SNRI (Effexor, Pristiq) AND
    • 1 or more augmentation agent (atypical antipsychotics, memantine, or topiramate) * AND
    • 1 trial of evidence-based CBT*
  • Willingness and motivation to challenge OCD symptoms
  • Patient must have GP and ideally a therapist in their community willing to provide ongoing medication management and therapy.

*If your patient does not fit our criteria but you feel they should be seen by the Thompson Centre, please explain in the form as indicated.

  • Current psychotic symptoms

8 months

Severe OCD
Residential Program

Canada

Mild to moderate symptoms of OCD

Surrounding Sunnybrook neighbourhood

  • You experience a primary diagnosis of OCD or related disorders such as hoarding, hair pulling (trichotillomania), skin picking and body dysmorphic disorder.
  • You do not currently experience PTSD, psychosis, or significant substance abuse difficulties.
  • You are between the ages of 18 – 65.
  • You live within the Sunnybrook neighbourhood defined as: Bathurst (West), Sheppard (North), DVP (East) and St. Clair (South), please click here to see our map.
  • If outside of the Sunnybrook neighbourhood, including out of province, you must be considered as having severe OCD and failed treatment to submit an application. See Specialized Services for more information.

  • hoarding,
  • hair pulling (trichotillomania),
  • skin picking and
  • body dysmorphic disorders (BDD).

  • You experience a primary diagnosis of OCD or related disorders such as hoarding, hair pulling (trichotillomania), skin picking and body dysmorphic disorder.
  • You do not currently experience PTSD, psychosis, or significant substance abuse difficulties.
  • You are between the ages of 18 – 65.
  • If you are out of province, you must be considered as having severe OCD and failed treatment to submit an application. See Specialized Services for more information.
