Placental disease in pregnancy can cause serious complications for women and their babies. Sunnybrook’s maternal-fetal medicine specialists care for women with a range of placental disorders, including placenta accreta and placenta abruption. The Hospital is also home to the Toronto Centre for Early Fetal Ultrasound, the first of its kind in Canada performing early stage fetal-targeted ultrasound examination in order to detect potential fetal and placental conditions, and an advanced level of expertise to offer the testing at an earlier stage in a woman’s pregnancy.
