Rapid Response

Rapid Response Teams (RRT), also known as ‘Medical Emergency Teams’ or ‘Critical Care Response/Outreach Teams’ are a major innovation in hospital practice. RRTs apply the principles of acute medicine and resuscitation across the hospital, and bring specialist knowledge and skills from the intensive care unit (ICU) directly to the bedside on a 24/7 basis.

The team is made up of an intensivist MD, critical care RN and a respiratory therapist. They are available to respond to calls at all times, and can be reached by dialing 5555 and asking for the Rapid Response Team. A Code Blue will continue to be activated for all respiratory and/or cardiac arrests or other medical emergencies as per Sunnybrook policy.
The team will respond to any acute care ward on Sunnybrook campus, not including the Holland Centre or Veteran’s wing.
