Complex malignant hematology program

Sunnybrook’s complex malignant hematology program allows for specialized, streamlined care of acute leukemia, aplastic anemia and aggressive lymphomas.

The 20-bed complex malignant hematology (CMH) unit provides expert inpatient care and treatment for these patients. Patients requiring induction chemotherapy typically stay on this unit.

Led by nurse practitioners, the complex malignant hematology outpatient clinic provides outpatient care and treatment. The clinic allows for quicker arrangement of all the necessary tests, chemotherapy treatments, procedures and transfusions.

Patients can be admitted to the CMH unit straight from Sunnybrook’s emergency department, the outpatient clinic or transferred from the community.

In the CMH program, you will be cared for by our expert multidisciplinary team. Some staff members rotate between the inpatient unit and outpatient clinics.

Note: Currently stem cell transplantations do not take place at Sunnybrook. Patients who require stem cell transplantations are referred/transferred to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
