Same Day Surgery (SDS)

A highly knowledgeable and skilled team of Nurses will admit and prepare you for surgery. You will be given instructions for your surgery and the staff will ensure you receive person-centered compassionate care and support leading up to your surgery. Our doors open at 6:30 a.m. Monday to Friday.

Patients going home following their surgery as well as patients staying in hospital following their surgery are admitted through day surgery.

If you are scheduled for day surgery, you should expect to go home on the same day as you have your surgery, in the afternoon or evening.

On the day of your surgery

  • Please do not take any oral medications on the day of your surgery unless otherwise instructed by your surgeon and/or anesthesiologist. A sip of water can be taken if you are told to take your medications.
  • Please bring all your medications you take on a daily basis with you.
  • Do not use any cosmetics, nail polish, creams, deodorants or fragrances before coming to the hospital. You may bathe and/or shower as usual the morning of.
  • Leave all valuables, including jewelry and credit cards at home.
  • Bring your health card.
  • If you are scheduled to go home the same day, you must have someone take you home after your surgery and stay with you overnight.

Patients staying overnight in Surgical Short Stay Unit

  • Ask your family to bring in your personal items.
  • Please do not bring any valuables with you as we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.
