Update: Rogers Service Outage

To all Staff, Physicians and Volunteers:

There is currently a nation-wide outage being experienced by Rogers/Fido/Chatr customers that are impacting cell phone service, as well as Internet and Rogers Home and Business phone services. This is preventing customers from making or receiving calls, or receiving SMS text messages through their network. This includes all hospital issued cell phones at Sunnybrook.

For clarity, if you try to reach a Rogers/Fido customer via phone or SMS text, or if they try to reach Sunnybrook – it will not work.

There is currently no ETA on when services will be restored.

What is NOT working

  • Outbound calls from the Holland Centre using normal landline phones
  • Rogers/Fido/Chatr cell phones and associated services (calling, texting, emailing and 911 calling)
  • Rogers Home and Business Internet
  • Rogers Home and Business phones (including 911 calling) or any other VOIP service connected to a Rogers Internet service
  • Services that rely on Rogers communication infrastructure such as ATM’s, Debit Machines etc.

What IS working

  • Our telephone system remains functional, including the ability to make and receive calls outside of Sunnybrook from landlines and with devices NOT on the Rogers/Fido/Chatr network. This includes the ability to call internally directly from extension to extension.
  • The CODE line – 5555 – remains fully functional at both the Bayview, the Holland Centre and SJR campus.
  • The internal paging system remains fully functional with the exception of those pagers who have forwarded their number to a Rogers cell phone.
  • Public phone calls to our Switchboard (from a non-Rogers service) remain fully functional.

What you should do

  • If you need to call Locating at Bayview campus, please call 4244.
  • All on call services at the Bayview site should be using the hospital’s pager system – pagers can be picked up from Locating.
  • All on call teams should consider remaining on site unless there are alternative arrangements to ensure there are no gaps in communication.
