Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit
The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a 13-bed unit for specialized care of patients having cardiac surgery, vascular surgery or after treatment for heart attack.
About the care team
Each day the team caring for your loved one spends time at the bedside discussing and planning their care.
Families are welcome during this time — please speak with your nurse if you wish to be present. Time for questions may be limited, however formally organized meetings can be arranged.
Each week a critical care specialist physician will guide your family member's medical care. Physician specialists and trainees from other services may also be involved in the medical care of your loved one.
Critical care nurses are specially trained to respond to the complex needs of your family member. Visitors are encouraged to ask the bedside nurse for updates. Each nurse looks after one to two patients.
Visiting information
We ask that you avoid visiting the unit between the hours of 7:15 a.m. and 8 a.m., and 7:15 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Please call the unit from the waiting room before entering each time. If there is no volunteer present, please use the phone provided.
We ask that you keep bedside visitors to two at a time.
Concerns
If you have additional concerns that cannot be addressed by the bedside nurse, please ask to speak to the nurse in charge, the clinical care leader or the patient care manager.
