D4 Intensive Care Unit

D4ICU is a 22-bed intensive care unit (ICU) for patients who require medical, surgical or stroke care.

About the care team

Each day the D4ICU interdisciplinary team caring for your loved one spends time at the bedside discussing their progress in addition to assessing and revising the plan of care.

Each week a critical care specialist staff doctor will be assigned to guide your family member's medical care.

Our nurses are highly skilled to look after the complex needs of you and your family member. Each nurse looks after two patients. We expect that you may have many questions during your loved one's stay in the intensive care unit. Please feel free to discuss your questions with your nurse.

Please let us know if you wish to speak with the doctor regarding the plan of care. As your loved one's condition changes, an alternate level of care will be discussed.

Visiting information

We ask that you avoid visiting the unit between the hours of 7:15 a.m. and 8 a.m., and 7:15 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Please call the unit from the waiting room before entering each time. If there is no volunteer present, please use the phone provided. We ask that you keep bedside visitors to two at a time.

Concerns

If you have additional concerns that cannot be addressed by the bedside nurse, please ask to speak to the nurse in charge, the clinical care leader or the patient care manager.
