Your care team
We are a team of professionals who have extensive experience in working with youth and their families around mental health problems. We work together collaboratively, sharing our combined observations and insights, and making decisions jointly to ensure that your care is as comprehensive as possible.
The following is a description of members of our team and how they can assist you:
» Child Youth Worker
- Assesses how you are doing on a day-to-day basis
- Develops and runs programs and activities to help improve how you are feeling and functioning
- Is someone supportive to talk to about anything that may be concerning you
» Clinical clerk
- Is a senior medical student training in psychiatry, who is under the close supervision of a staff psychiatrist
- Assesses how you are doing on a day-to-day basis
- Is someone supportive to talk to about anything that may be concerning you
- Liaises with your family on your progress
» Nurse
- Assesses how you are doing on a day-to-day basis
- Works with you individually on strategies and approaches to improve how you are feeling and functioning
- Liaises with your family on your progress
- Can help answer questions you may have about your diagnosis and your treatment
- Gives you any medications that you are prescribed
- Assesses and helps with physical health problems you may be experiencing, including medication side effects
» Pharmacist
- Monitors and reviews any medications you are taking
- Answers questions you may have about medication treatment, including concerns about side effects
» Psychiatrist
- Assesses your whole situation at present and over time
- Diagnoses main problems and develops a comprehensive treatment plan with you and your family
- Prescribes medications and monitors the effects
- Works with you individually and with your family on strategies and approaches to improve how you are feeling and functioning
» Psychiatry resident
- Is a medical doctor training to be a psychiatrist, who is under the close supervision of a staff psychiatrist
- Covers the same duties as the psychiatrist
» Social worker
- Meets with you and your family to discuss your concerns as a family
- Helps you find and connect with community resources, if you need them
» Teacher
- Delivers an academic program based on your educational goals and abilities
- Assesses how you are functioning in school currently
- Discusses with you and your family what school options may be best for you following discharge from hospital
- Liaises with your current (and future) school program(s)
