Your inpatient stay
You can make the most of your stay by doing the following:
» Talk to members of the team openly and honestly about how you are feeling and what is on your mind
- The more you help us understand what you are going through, the better we can work together on improving things
- Speaking with us honestly, while at times difficult, allows us to help you more effectively
- We recognise that sometimes you may feel more comfortable with some team members than with others. However, please do your best to talk to the person that is available - you will get more comfortable with them if you give them a chance
» Talk to members of the team about what goals you want to work on during the admission
- Please make us aware of your priorities during admission to ensure the most helpful treatment for you
- We can help you assess which goals are most important to work on and which ones are realistic to work on during the admission
- These goals will be written out and kept in your room so that you can ensure we are meeting your needs
» If you are feeling extremely upset, scared, suicidal, agitated, angry, violent, or as if you will harm yourself, ask a team member for help immediately
- We can talk with you, working on coping strategies and use medications to help you calm down, feel better and stay safe
- The sooner you ask for help, the sooner we can help you improve the situation and feel better
- If you are experiencing any other uncomfortable physical or emotional symptoms, ask your nurse for medication
» Attend & participate in all programs and activities
- The programs and activities are part of your treatment plan
- By attending and participating, you will help yourself to feel better more quickly
- You will also help us observe how you are doing
» Follow the rules and expectations of the program
- The rules and expectations of the program are in place to keep patients safe, to follow hospital policies, and to make sure that the inpatient ward is a positive and helpful place for everyone
- By following these rules and expectations, you can make sure that your admission here goes smoothly and positively
- You can also avoid any negative consequences that can arise when rules and expectations are not adhered to
