Sunnybrook is proud to have a team of individuals who are on site to support all learners navigate challenging educational situations. If you are experiencing issues with your placement, the hospital, faculty/staff or another student, or have experienced any form of discrimination, harassment, and violence, we can help.
While we recommend you follow our escalation procedure if you have a concern about your placement, please feel free to contact any of us should you need support.
A confidential hotline is also offered to learners in distress by Sunnybrook's Department of Psychiatry at 416-480-4561.

Student Mistreatment »
We are committed to providing a safe, healthy, secure and respectful environment through the prevention of violent, abusive, aggressive and unprofessional behaviour for everyone, including students. This is also an environment that is free of all forms of harassment, including sexual harassment, discrimination, bullying and violence in compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act. Our team is here to listen, support, and guide those who have experienced or witnessed such incidents.
If your health and safety or that of someone else’s is at risk, please call 911 or seek medical attention right away.
For other concerns during your placement, we recommend you follow our escalation process so we can best address the issue. However, please feel free to contact any of us should you need our support.
Workplace Injury »
If you experience an injury while on placement, please follow the steps below:
- Alert your supervisor/preceptor and seek medical assistance as required.
- Complete an employee incident report on Sunnynet. If you cannot access Sunnynet, please speak with your supervisor.
- Provide a copy of your incident report to your school/faculty and ensure that they are aware of your injury and any anticipated time off as a result of the injury.
- Collaborate with your supervisor/preceptor to negotiate your return to placement as required.
