Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Basic Life Support (CPR/BLS)
External attendees are welcome!
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) is the foundation for saving lives after cardiac arrest. It is designed for health-care professionals and trained first responders who provide care to patients in a wide variety of settings, and teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in pre-hospital and in-facility settings.
COVID precautions will be in place during courses. Please note that attendees must be fully vaccinated in order to attend.
1 Course overview and learning objectives
The CPR/BLS course focuses on teaching the essential skills rescuers need to know to perform high-quality CPR in a wide variety of settings. It teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in pre-hospital and in-facility settings. After successfully completing the CPR/BLS course, students should be able to:
- Recognize a patient in cardiac arrest and other life-threatening emergencies
- Initiate high-quality CPR for adults, children and infants
- Properly use an automatic external defibrillator (AED)
- Manage a patient with a foreign body airway obstruction
Sunnybrook uses high fidelity manikins with compression depth indicator capacity. Feedback devices facilitate real time feedback on learner performance related to compression rate, depth and complete release in order to optimize learning!
