Welcome to nursing education
Nursing at Sunnybrook is a key contributor to achievement of our mandate as an academic health sciences centre. We seek to advance nursing scholarship through innovative partnerships with academic organizations, investing in the development of current and future nursing professionals, and generating new knowledge through research.
We are fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, and we partner with several local, provincial and international academic institutions and associations to facilitate a wide range of student placement experiences and continuing professional development. Each year, more than 900 nursing students and 2,700 staff nurses engage in learning activities at Sunnybrook. Nursing staff and students have access to innovative education through e-learning modules, virtual communities, classroom, simulation lab, and unit-based sessions provided by our highly qualified Interprofessional team of educators.
Nursing leadership roles in education include advanced practice nurses (APN) and clinical educators (CE). These nursing leaders are primarily responsible for the ongoing nursing staff education and practice within the programs. They work in collaboration with other nursing leaders; health professional educators; and organizational development to provide excellent learning experiences for both students and staff. Nursing education, the APN & CE group, nursing leaders, staff and students are assisting to shape the future of education at Sunnybrook through active involvement on internal committees such as the Sunnybrook advisory committee (SEAC) and its various sub-committees.
