When you give, you become an essential part of Team Sunnybrook.
As Canadians, we are fortunate to have a universal health-care system, with government funding in place to ensure that most common forms of basic care are provided at no cost to the patient.
But that funding model only goes so far. At Sunnybrook, philanthropy serves as a critical bridge not only for exploration and discovery, but for much-needed capital expansions, equipment upgrades, clinical trials, patient comforts and even minimally invasive procedures where provincial funding is capped.
We also face increasing patient volumes, waitlists for deferred care and an aging demographic against a backdrop of constrained infrastructure, barriers to equitable access, continued financial uncertainty and staffing shortages – not to mention the emergence of new diseases.
But these challenges are not insurmountable, thanks in large part to the generosity of our donors.
Here are a few of the ways donor support advances innovation and elevates care at Sunnybrook:
- Pioneering treatments and initiatives that improve access and set new standards for care in areas such as brain sciences, cancer diagnosis and treatment, minimally invasive heart procedures, trauma, and women and babies.
- Sparking medical breakthroughs through groundbreaking research in Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, stroke, mental health, cancer, cardiac and vascular care, trauma and burn rehabilitation, high-risk pregnancies and more.
- Ensuring our facilities match the high level of our expertise through the procurement of leading-edge technology and the development of new and upgraded spaces.
- Responding quickly to unexpected challenges and emerging priorities, such as our COVID-19 pandemic response.
