Philanthropic gift to establish chair in Department of Medicine
Dr. Kevin Imrie, Physician-in-Chief, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook, will be the inaugural William Sibbald Chair for the Physician-in-Chief, it was announced during an event to declare the intent to establish the chair.
A $3-million gift will establish the chair, which will support research in the Department of Medicine. It is named for the late Dr. William Sibbald, former Physician-in-Chief of Sunnybrook and a pioneer in critical care medicine.
The chair will provide more opportunities for collaboration and further strengthen the relationship between the hospital and the University of Toronto. Dr. Imrie is also Professor of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Vice-Chair of Education at the University of Toronto.
The announcement was made during The 2015 William J. Sibbald Visiting Professorship lecture at Sunnybrook, which featured Rob Sibbald, Bioethicist at Western University and Dr. Sibbald’s son.

Dr. Kevin Imrie, Physician-in-Chief, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, has been announced as the inaugural William Sibbald Chair for the Physician-in-Chief.

The gift was funded through a partnership with the University of Toronto, Sunnybrook’s Department of Medicine and a generous contribution from Virginia McLaughlin and her family. The chair is named for the late Dr. William Sibbald, former Physician-in-Chief of Sunnybrook and a pioneer in critical care medicine.
