Dr. Larry Robinson elected President of Canadian Association of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

Dr. Larry Robinson, chief of rehabilitation services and the St. John’s Rehab program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, has been elected president of the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (CAPMR), a group of medical professionals and researchers from across Canada who share a common goal of improving care and education in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation.

“I’m excited to serve as a president of the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and I look forward to continuing its mission of advancing the education of physiatrists across Canada and improving care for patients alongside my work at Sunnybrook,” says Dr. Robinson, who will hold the position for a two-year term.

Dr. Robinson, who is also a senior scientist, Evaluative Clinical Sciences, former research director of the St. John’s Rehab Research Program, and professor and division director of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at University of Toronto, is the first Sunnybrook physiatrist to be elected to the position.

Originally from Boston, MA, Dr. Robinson has been actively involved in the group’s planning and education innovations since moving to Canada in 2014, serving as program chair in 2016 for the annual meeting in Niagara, ON and in a vice-president role for the association since 2017. Most recently, his involvement led to a new partnership with the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, connecting physiatrists in Canada and the USA.

Dr. Robinson leads in the changing post-COVID world as virtual rehabilitation and education unleashes opportunities to expand the rehabilitation expertise of both Sunnybrook and CAPMR on an international level.
