M Wing News Flash!

The M Wing Vertical Expansion Project will create four additional floors on top of M Wing at Sunnybrook Campus.

Two of the four floors added to M wing will be the future home of the Perinatal & Gynaecology program including a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and expanded capacity for labour and delivery.

Recent construction activity on the M Wing Vertical Expansion Project includes:

  • The East and West tower cranes have been installed and are now in service.
  • A structural steel platform has been built above M Wing’s main lobby
  • To prepare for the removal ofthe skylights in the M Wing lobby, construction of temporary weather protection is now underway.
  • Protective barriers have been installed for the construction zones on the East and West ends of the building.
  • Pedestrian protection has been installed at emergency exits and the public areas North of M Wing.
  • Construction of the M Wing 4th floor reinforced concrete slab extension has been completed.
  • Construction of the M Wing 5th floor reinforced concrete slab is now underway in the area East of the main lobby.
  • Demolition has commenced on the roof over top of M3’s Imaging Research Centre for Cardiac Intervention IRCCI.)
  • Work has started on extending the existing soiled and existing clean elevator shaft walls.
  • Temporary construction power has been established.
  • Construction has started for mechanical services for the M Wing 4th floor.
