Announcement from Sunnybrook

October 19, 2016

Dear Friend of Sunnybrook:

At the hospital’s Board of Director’s meeting this morning, we received official notification from Dr. Barry McLellan, President and CEO, of his intention to step down at the end of June 2017.

Although we tried to persuade him otherwise, the Board respects his decision to step down. Barry has led the organization through an incredible amount of positive growth and change during his 10-years at the helm of Sunnybrook. He has attracted an unprecedented amount of support for Sunnybrook from our partners in government and our community, which has helped to fund innovations in care as well as capital expansion and much needed construction projects.

Under his leadership, Sunnybrook has developed a strong reputation as a partner to many health care organizations and providers, including many of you, who are working with us to ensure care is improved across the patient’s experience with the health system.

I know you have worked with Barry over the years and would agree with me that he has been an exceptional leader who will not be replaced easily. Our Board will begin the task of finding a successor for Barry and we hope to be able to communicate with you the results of our efforts in 2017.

As always, we look forward to continuing to work with you.

Sincerely,

Blake Goldring
Chair, Board of Directors
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre
