International Teaching Program Supported by Sunnybrook
This was the second year that the Sunnybrook Life Support Program participated as a learning site for the International Pediatric Emergency Medicine Elective. The elective is designed to use healthcare as a means to improve cross border cooperation among regions in the Middle East. Eight medical students from Canada, Israel, Jordan, and Palestine came together in Toronto for four weeks (July 22 – August 15) During that time, they participated in various learning activities and came to Sunnybrook for a modified life support course.
The program is sponsored by the Canadian Scientific Exchange Program (CISEPO), the Peter A. Silverman Centre for International Health, Mount Sinai Hospital, and the Hospital for Sick Children. The Sunnybrook Life Support Program hosted the students again this year for the practical workshop. During the session, students from different regions were able to practice their resuscitation skills, which enabled them to work and learn together.
More information can be obtained by contacting Dr. Paul Hawkins, Director of the Sunnybrook Life Support Program, or Dr. Rahim Valani, one of the directors of the elective program.
