A Candlelight Tribute Marking the 90th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge
War veterans at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Canada's largest veterans' care facility will gather on Monday, April 9 to pay tribute to those who served, in the First World War and in one of Canada's greatest military victories, the Battle of Vimy Ridge. The battle took place exactly 90 years ago on Easter Monday, April 9, 1917.
The Honourable James K. Bartleman, and David Sweet, MP for Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale will be among the dignitaries to attend the commemorative candlelight event.
Major John Fisher, Canadian Forces College will give a first hand account of the recent restoration of the Vimy Memorial in France. Major Fishers' ancestors fought in the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
Mr. Dan Fenety, Regional Director General, Veterans Affairs Canada, Ontario Region will be the Master of Ceremonies. Dwight Wilson, First World War veteran, Sunnybrook resident and one of only two surviving Canadian veterans of the Great War will also attend the ceremony.
