A-list stars come out to support Sunnybrook's orthopaedic program
Canada's finest musical, theatrical and comedic talent will perform at the 2007 Night of Stars to raise funds to support the orthopaedic program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, ensuring that the centre of excellence is there for patients when it matters most. The event will take place on Monday, May 14, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at the Princess of Wales Theatre at 300 King Street West, Toronto, with a VIP reception at 6 p.m. Media are asked to RSVP to marie.sanderson@sunnybrook.ca.

Since its inception in 1995, the Night of Stars has raised over $1 million to support the hospital's orthopaedic program. This year, the funds raised will support new facilities to meet the growing demand for orthopaedic procedures and research. As a regional referral base for Ontario, the Holland Orthopaedic and Arthritic Centre at 43 Wellesley Street East has an annual volume of over 5,000 surgical cases, including approximately 2,200 hip and knee replacement procedures and more than 100,000 ambulatory care visits. The Holland Musculoskeletal Program, encompassing services at both the Holland Centre downtown and the Sunnybrook campus at 2075 Bayview Avenue, is constantly striving to find ways to improve the outcomes of musculoskeletal care by building on innovations in surgery and research.
"Ensuring that patients receive timely access to quality care is a top priority," says Marilyn Wright, co-chair of the Night of Stars. "Proceeds from this event will update the hospital's facilities, which we hope will help to facilitate the reduction of wait times and also give staff the tools they require to discover new ways of delivering the highest quality of care possible."
For Graham Hallward, one of the event co-chairs, the evening has personal significance. Both Graham and his wife have had orthopaedic surgery at Sunnybrook. "Without a doubt I have 'grateful patient syndrome," says Graham. "The medical team with the Holland Musculoskeletal Program are at the top of their game. Their passion has been my motivation to become involved in Night of the Stars - to ensure that they can fulfill the growing demand for outstanding musculoskeletal care, education and research."
