Celebrating Toy Mountain

On December 5, CTV's Tom Brown hosted a one-hour live special at Sunnybrook's Bayview Campus to celebrate the Toy Mountain campaign and the Hospital's long history in injury prevention.

Joanne Banfield, Manager of Sunnybrook's RBC First Office for Injury Prevention, explained the benefits of the P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth) Program, where high school students see how poor choices, like drinking and driving, can have devastating consequences.

About 25 students from Sir Wilfred Laurier Collegiate Institute, who had been through the P.A.R.T.Y. Program came to donate toys and decorate the Christmas tree with their teacher Donna McClelland.

Trauma surgeon Dr. Homer Tien delivered some important safety messages, and was joined by trauma survivors and P.A.R.T.Y. spokespeople Nancy Xia and Anthony Lue, who reinforced the importance of staying safe this holiday season. Jennifer Keays and Kim McKinnon were also on hand to deliver an ambulance full of donations from Toronto Emergency Medical Services to help build a mountain of toys at Sunnybrook! Music for the evening was performed by recording artist and Sunnybrook staff member Phillip Brown.
