Initiative helps the move to digital pathology

February 5, 2013

Sunnybrook and Huron Technologies are collaborating to implement a high-speed slide scanning system for digital pathology.

The collaboration consists of in-hospital trial of Huron's new TISSUEscopeTM HS Digital Slide Scanner. This whole slide scanning system shatters the current norms in terms of scanning speed and throughput.

"Through the various skills of its specialized pathologists, administrators, IT personnel, scientists and lab technologists, Sunnybrook is eager to partner with Huron Technologies. This is a critical and enabling factor for us to be able to implement digital pathology in our regular workflow and academics in anatomical pathology. The solutions they offer are likely faster than any technology we've seen thus far," says Dr. Mahmoud Khalifa, Sunnybrook's Chief of Anatomic Pathology.

Huron Technologies' TISSUEscopeTM HS Digital Slide Scanner at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for Digital Pathology

(February 4, 2013) - Huron Technologies and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre announced their collaboration to implement a Digital Pathology initiative based on Huron Technologies' newest TISSUEscopeTM HS Digital Slide Scanner at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

The collaboration consists of in hospital trial of Huron Technologies' latest TISSUEscopeTM HS Digital Slide Scanner. This recently announced high-throughput, high-capacity, whole slide scanning system shatters the current norms in terms of scanning speed and throughput. "In addition to dedicated pathologists' workstations to view virtual digital slides, the implementation leverages Huron's equally new image storage and sharing solution," says Dr. Reda Fayek, Chief Executive Officer at Huron Technologies.

The collaboration allows Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre's to effectively and efficiently explore, test and refine a flexible approach to digital pathology. The most salient feature of Huron's new TISSUEscopeTM HS Digital Slide Scanner is its speed. Mahmoud Khalifa, Chief of Anatomic Pathology, Sunnybrook.

"Huron will greatly benefit from the value add provided by Sunnybrook with respect to the workflow and analysis aspects of the system," adds Brad Davis, Executive Director, Laboratory Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Dr. Reda Fayek adds: "Sunnybrook's unique attitude towards the commercialization of life sciences technologies makes it an ideal partner for us. Being one of the largest academic medical laboratories in Canada, focused on clinical services, teaching and research, Sunnybrook offers a wide spectrum of fruitful interactions to perfect our newest TISSUEscopeTM HS Digital Slide Scanner as well as exploring tumour boards, second consultations, teaching and telepathology."
