Getting a good night’s rest can be difficult during the best of times, but it may be an even greater challenge as the COVID-19 pandemic continues as many people are experiencing increased stress and anxiety.

Dr. Mark Boulos, neurologist and sleep specialist, shares insight into the importance and health benefits of sleep with CityNews Toronto.

“In times of great stress, healthy sleep can help boost immunity,” says Dr. Boulos. “It also allows us to be more resilient to mental health issues like stress, burnout and fatigue.”

Incorporating healthy habits into the daily routine can help improve the quality of sleep.

“Try to exercise, particularly in the morning as it will help you feel refreshed during the day and by nighttime, a bit more tired,” explains Dr. Boulos. “Having healthy meals at regular times during your day and not too close to bedtime, can help as well.”
