Dr. Mark Sinyor receives grant for unique suicide prevention program

June 9, 2020

Congratulations to Dr. Mark Sinyor, psychiatrist and suicide prevention expert, who has received a $50,000 grant from Mental Health Research Canada (MHRC) and the Institute for Advancements in Mental Health (IAM) for the creation of a unique curriculum to help teach resilience and coping skills to elementary school students.

Over the past few years, Dr. Sinyor has developed a three-month curriculum to help students improve their mental health literacy through the book Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as it deals with issues including bullying and depression, and helps teach students coping skills and resilience. The goal is to expand to an online curriculum which is currently under development. This is the first ever Canada-wide Mental Health Innovation Prize from MHRC and IAM.

Congratulations, Dr. Sinyor!
