The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs Canada, visited Sunnybrook's Veterans Centre on December 17, to bring holiday greeting to the veteran residents and have a guided tour of the facility, including the Dorothy Macham Home, a leading care facility for veterans who suffer from challenging behaviours due to dementia.

That same afternoon the Minister's office also released information regarding an important new partnership between Veterans Affairs Canada and The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) called the Long-Term Care Outreach and Visitation Initiative to provide support to Canada's war veterans who live in a long-term care facility. With this new program approximately 4,000 veterans living in long-care facilities across the country will have the option of a social visit and conversation with a trained RCL volunteer.

While touring the resident care units and meeting with veterans at Sunnybrook, Minister Fantino also presented certificates of appreciation to a number of veterans who served in the Italian Campaign.
