Congratulations Dr. Nir Lipsman
Congratulations to Dr. Nir Lipsman, director of Sunnybrook’s Harquail Centre for Neuromodulation, on receiving the 2020 Ferenc Jolesz Memorial Award from the Focused Ultrasound Foundation.
The Ferenc Jolesz Memorial Award recognizes researchers and clinicians who continue to advance focused ultrasound with the same innovative spirit as Jolesz, a pioneer in focused ultrasound.
“It’s an incredible honour to receive this award in Dr. Jolesz’ name, a giant and pioneer in the FUS field,” says Dr. Lipsman, who is also clinical director of Sunnybrook’s Focused Ultrasound Centre of Excellence, the only Canadian centre with this distinction.
“I share it with the amazing team at Sunnybrook and all our collaborators, without whom none of this exciting work would be possible.”
Dr. Lipsman and his team have broken new ground in clinical applications of MRI-guided focused ultrasound in essential tremor, major depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder, as well as focused ultrasound in temporarily opening the blood-brain barrier in Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and glioblastoma (GBM).
The Ferenc Jolesz Memorial Award includes a $5,000 prize. The award, supported by Insightec, was presented virtually at the Focused Ultrasound Foundation’s 7th International Symposium on Focused Ultrasound.
