Sunnybrook medical oncologist Dr. Kathleen Pritchard has been named to the Order of Canada for “her contributions to the treatment of breast cancer in women, notably as a leader of influential national and international clinical trials.”

The award highlights Dr. Pritchard’s determination in finding new and better ways to treat patients with breast cancer, and her leadership in bringing breast cancer clinical trials to fruition around the world.

Dr. Pritchard, who is also a professor emerita in the Departments of Medicine and Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at University of Toronto, has guided the development and implementation of countless multi-centre breast cancer clinical trials as chair and co-chair of the Canadian Cancer Clinical Trials Group (CCTG) Breast Site Committee.

She is a founding member of the Early Breast Cancer Trialists Collaborative Group (1984), and most recently co-chair since 2000. The collaborative group includes breast cancer leaders from around the world and was formed to coordinate meta-analyses of all randomized trial data. Most recently, the New England Journal of Medicine published the group’s paper on the long-term risk of recurrence in women with ER-positive, early-stage breast cancer who had been given adjuvant endocrine therapy

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Pritchard on this wonderful honour and on her outstanding career as a medical oncologist and researcher.
