Construction begins on new Complex Malignant Hematology Unit
Thanks to the support of the Ontario government, Sunnybrook today begins construction on a new Complex Malignant Hematology (CMH) Unit.
The new unit will offer specialized treatment for people with blood cancers, such as leukemia.
Last year, the provincial government announced that Sunnybrook would become a new site for this complex care.
In order to become the specialized environment that acute leukemia patients require, one of our in-patient units, several pharmacies and an outpatient clinic will undergo renovations in a phased approach over the next few months.
“Sunnybrook is known for its specialized care in many areas and we will soon open our doors even wider to welcome patients suffering from acute hematological malignancies so that they can receive state-of-the-art care in a more timely manner and closer to home,” said Sunnybrook President and CEO Dr. Andy Smith.
By late fall 2018, we will be ready to care for acute leukemia patients in a new, highly specialized space and in a newly repurposed outpatient area.
All efforts will be made to minimize construction disruptions for patients, families and staff.
