Dilatation and curettage (D&C)
Introduction
Dilatation and curettage (D&C) is a minor operation that removes material from the inside lining of your uterus.
Hysteroscopy is a procedure where a hysteroscope, a thin tube with a tiny camera, is used to look at the inside of your uterus.
Abnormal uterine bleeding is the most common reason why a D&C and/or hysteroscopy is done. By doing a D&C and/or hysteroscopy, your doctor can assess the causes of your heavy and/or painful periods. You and your doctor should discuss the reasons for your having the procedure.
