Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Introduction
Our Department of Ophthalmology is pleased to offer Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), a highly sensitive diagnostic test used in the evaluation of conditions of the macula (the area of the retina responsible for detailed vision).
It is non-invasive, painless test that produces high-resolutions scans of the retina and may, in some cases, replace more invasive testing.
OCT scans are commonly used to aid in the diagnosis and response treatment of retinal conditions such as: age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, macular edema, epiretinal membranes and others. OCT scans are also routinely used in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma.
Our ophthalmologists are pleased to answer any further questions you may have about the OCT and its role in your care.
