Preoperative Instructions

You must have nothing to eat or drink from midnight prior to surgery. You should not take any diabetic medications on the morning of surgery, but you may take all other medications with a small sip of water. It is especially important to take your blood pressure medication on the morning of surgery. Unless otherwise instructed, you make continue to take blood thinners – such as aspirin or coumadin/warfarin – as usual before and after surgery. Some surgeons have you begin to take your eye drops a few days before surgery.
