Patient Education: Diseases Conditions Treatments & Procedures

Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

What can I expect?

  • Some soreness around any incision site.
  • You will have light vaginal bleeding for 2-4 weeks. It should be scant brown or pinkish fluid. Do not use tampons.
  • You will no longer be having menstrual periods.
  • You may have shoulder/neck pain because of the air inserted into your abdominal cavity during the operation.  This should go away as you begin your normal activities. This may last about 2-3 days and is not dangerous.
  • You may experience feelings of sadness and slight depression of mood after this type of operation.
