Building the future of brain health

September 10, 2024

In a few short months, Sunnybrook’s Garry Hurvitz Brain Sciences Centre will open its doors to patients and work is well underway to finish construction of the new building, located on Sunnybrook’s Bayview campus.

Recently, construction reached an important milestone, with most interior construction complete. As we get ready to welcome patients early next year, work continues to finish the building exterior and prepare staff in the Hurvitz Brain Sciences Program to transition to the new building.

The Hurvitz Centre confirms Sunnybrook’s role as a leader in brain health for Canada, and plays a vital role in our vision of inventing the future of health care. Bringing together top-notch clinical care and revolutionary research, and providing patients with a full spectrum of care.

“Sunnybrook is integral in the future of brain health care for Ontario and right across Canada,” says Dr. Nir Lipsman, Chief of the Hurvitz Brain Sciences Program. “When the new Hurvitz Centre opens, uniting clinicians and researchers under one roof, it will allow our teams to continue to do what they do best – innovate, develop new treatments and improve care for people living with brain disorders and mental illness.”

“Thanks to the visionary leadership of Garry Hurvitz and the generosity of many, Sunnybrook will be able to invent the future of brain health,” says Kelly Cole, President and CEO, Sunnybrook Foundation. “We’re excited to see the impact when the building welcomes patients next year.”

The new Hurvitz Centre is an important collaboration between Sunnybrook, the philanthropic community and government, and will welcome patients in early 2025. Learn more about the Garry Hurvitz Brain Sciences Centre on our website.
