Getting ready for the return to school
Dr. Rachel Mitchell, child and adolescent psychiatrist, shares helpful insight for back-to-school conversations between parents and their children with CBC Radio’s Cross Country Checkup.
Dr. Mitchell encourages parents to speak honestly with their children when talking about the return to school during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“They can tell when you’re not being truthful,” says Dr. Mitchell. “Worrying about the uncertainty, and knowing that they’re not being told [the truth], is actually more destabilizing, potentially, than knowing the truth and being given the tools and support to deal with it."
