Dr. Idan Roifman appointed to the Reichmann Family Chair in Cardiovascular Research

Sunnybrook is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Idan Roifman to the Reichmann Family Chair in Cardiovascular Research, jointly shared by Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine.
As the new incumbent for a five-year term, Dr. Roifman’s focus will be expanding Sunnybrook’s cardiovascular imaging research program and fostering large-scale collaborations to position the program as a hub for imaging-focused registries and clinical trials.
“I’m honoured to be recognized with the Reichmann Family Chair in Cardiovascular Research, an initiative that has accelerated research within the Schulich Heart Program,” says Dr. Roifman, a scientist in the Evaluative Clinical Sciences and Schulich Heart Research Program at Sunnybrook Research Institute. “The opportunity afforded by this chair will help expand capacity for cardiovascular research and build our imaging research into a globally renowned platform.”
Dr. Roifman is a global leader in cardiovascular imaging, as well as health services and outcomes research. His work focuses on translational and clinical MRI research including the assessment of remodelling of the heart and tissue characterization after a heart attack and clinical assessment of novel cardiac MRI sequences.
His research also includes the application of health services and clinical epidemiology principles and techniques to cardiac imaging to assess clinical outcomes and to conduct comparative effectiveness research.
“As chairholder, I hope to accelerate our program by building multi-modality imaging registries and imaging clinical trial infrastructure to facilitate data-guided therapy and deliver personalized and precise treatments,” adds Dr. Roifman, who is also an associate professor at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine. “The chair will also enable me to further my passion for mentoring the next generation of clinician-scientists, and commitment to fostering an environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, scientific rigor, and a commitment to discovery in order to improve patient care.”
The Reichmann Family Chair in Cardiovascular Research was previously held by Dr. Bradley Strauss, senior scientist in Biological Sciences and the Schulich Heart Research Program and professor at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine. The Chair enabled Dr. Strauss to advance his research in novel approaches and new therapies for total chronic occlusions.
The Reichmann Family Chair in Cardiovascular Research was established in 2007 and made possible by the generous support of the Reichmann family.
