Meet our new nurse practitioner, Andrea Payne

By Sunnybrook Academic Family Health Team  •  June 20, 2018

We are pleased to welcome Andrea Payne in her new role as a nurse practitioner at the Sunnybrook Academic Family Health Team (SAFHT)!

A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse who has completed additional graduate education, clinical experience, and national exam requirements mandated by the College of Nurses of Ontario. The NP has an expanded scope of practice encompassing comprehensive assessment and diagnosis, ability to order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications and other treatments, and make referrals to specialists.

Many of you will already know Andrea, who was as a registered nurse on the corridor team for nine years. In her new role as a nurse practitioner, Andrea works collaboratively with SAFHT physicians and interprofessional health-care providers to deliver comprehensive care.

Andrea obtained her bachelor of science (honours) in life sciences from Queen’s University in Kingston, followed by a bachelor of nursing science. In 2014, while still working at the SAFHT, Andrea went back to school to complete her master of nursing and primary health care nurse practitioner program at Ryerson University.

Appointments with Andrea can be made by calling your regular family physician’s office.
