Internationally renowned leader to head Foundation

Having led billion dollar fundraising campaigns both in Canada and overseas, Dr. Jon Dellandrea now joins Sunnybrook Foundation as its president and chief executive officer, effective April 2, 2012. 

In announcing the appointment, Perry Dellelce, chair of Sunnybrook Foundation's board, said, "Sunnybrook's aim is to invent new ways to care for the people who count on us at the most critical times in their lives. We can only do this with investment from our community. There is no other person in the country more qualified than Dr. Dellandrea to build that investment in Sunnybrook."

Dr. Barry McLellan, president and CEO of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre added, "In order to deliver the innovative care our community needs, we need a sustainable, predictable base of philanthropic support. Dr. Dellandrea has successfully tackled this challenge at other complex, internationally renowned organizations like Sunnybrook."

"Without question, Dr. Dellandrea is the caliber of leader Sunnybrook Foundation needs in order to be positioned to meet the great needs of the people who count on Sunnybrook," said Jennifer Tory, chair of the Campaign for Sunnybrook. "Whether it's cancer, stroke, heart disease, trauma or babies in severe distress, our patients need the life-saving innovation for which Sunnybrook is globally renowned. That life-saving innovation is possible only through the generosity of our community."

This commitment, along with Sunnybrook's clinical and research achievements are the reasons I am honoured to serve this remarkable organization," said Dellandrea. In addition to managing its operations, Dellandrea will lead the Foundation in achieving the goals of its $470-million Campaign for Sunnybrook

Prior to joining Sunnybrook Foundation, Dr. Dellandrea's accomplishments include leading the successful completion of University of Toronto's $1-billion campaign a year ahead of schedule as Vice-President and Chief Development Officer there, followed in 2008 by the launching of University of Oxford's $2.5-billion campaign in the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor of that university. Dr. Dellandrea also held the positions of President of Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation and Vice-President, University Development at the University of Waterloo. In 2006 he was appointed to the Order of Canada in recognition of his central role in fostering a culture of philanthropy in Canada.
