TRAC wins the Improved Value and Sustainability Award from the Ontario Health System Quality & Innovation Awards
This September, the Toronto Regional Arthroplasty Collaborative (TRAC), a cross-hospital partnership between Sunnybrook, Michael Garron Hospital, Sinai Health System and Unity Health won the Improved Value and Sustainability Award from the Ontario Health System Quality & Innovation Awards.
TRAC’s goal is to reduce backlogs in hip and knee replacement surgery by leveraging unused weekend operating room capacity.
The TRAC program has proven to be a successful model to address hip and knee surgical backlogs. The program has allowed for over 1000 surgeries to be performed for patients who otherwise would have been on long surgical wait lists, and has involved close collaboration of hospital administrators, surgeons, and interprofessional team members to provide high quality and expedited care to patients requiring hip and knee replacement surgery at one hospital site, a first in the province.
Since the program’s began in April 2023, it has improved the quality of life of hundreds of Ontarians by providing expedited access to hip and knee arthroplasty. This sustainable model will continue to provide important orthopaedic care to an additional 1000+ patients across Ontario for this year and beyond.
