Protect against fraud

July 7, 2011

Recently, an article appeared in the Toronto Star about a trial involving an unfortunate fraudulent crime that occurred last December involving the widow of a Veteran resident.

A woman posing as a social worker from Sunnybrook called and arranged a home visit with the Veteran's widow shortly after the passing of her husband. Although some of our staff conduct home visits there are strict protocols in place for doing so and staff members are always required to wear proper identification and they do not ask for personal banking or credit card information.

In future, if a family member receives a call from Sunnybrook and are not sure about the validity of the call, please contact our Patient Relations Department for assistance at 416-480-6107 (for the Veterans Centre) or 416-480-4041 for all other patients.
