April 2009 Newsletter

It has been a very busy and productive year in the department of Medicine. We have accomplished almost ALL of our short term goals in our strategic plan. Recently we successfully implemented the Web CV for all faculty members in the Department. Now we can push a button and produce our annual reports, promotion dossiers and CIHR common CV. The Web CV will also be a major benefit in measuring our overall teaching and research efforts.

March 2009 Newsletter

The Department of Medicine has just successfully completed implementation of the Web CV at Sunnybrook. During the spring all of the faculty members had their CV entered into the new Web format and received one on one training in how to keep their dossier up to date. The Web program now allows faculty members to generate reports for a variety of different uses without any additional work. The Web CV will provide annual reports, promotion dossiers, three year review dossiers, CIHR common CV. In addition, it can be used to generate aggregate reports of the accomplishments of the whole department — for example, we can report how much teaching we are doing and in what formats, likewise for research.

February 2009 Newsletter

We are finalizing recruitment of seven new faculty members for this coming July. These are wonderful young faculty members who will add greatly to our academic programs. On April 28 we are holding our “Spring Fling” with a dinner and dance. We will be honouring the faculty members who have been part of our Department for over 20 years. This should be a joyous event to celebrate together.

January 2009 Newsletter

We are working on the Web CV—a program that will allow all faculty members to keep ONE CV and use it to generate all the reports needed. This includes the yearly annual report, research reports, CIHR common CV, promotion dossiers and three year reviews. The Department has established Grand Rounds quarterly on topics related to maternal medicine in order to increase our knowledge in this area. In addition to establishing this newsletter we are reformatting our Website assisted by the Communication department of the hospital. A further exciting new event is the establishment of the University of Toronto Center for Patient Safety.

In November, the Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook hosted a very successful awards ceremony at the Vaughan Estates. This year we tried something new; we invited a junior, mid and senior faculty member to each spend a brief period of time telling the department about their work.
