Dr. Elaine Yong graduated from Queen's University medical school in 1999 and completed her Internal Medicine as well as her Gastroenterology residency at the University of Toronto. In addition, she trained as a fellow in therapeutic endoscopy at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, and subsequently in endoscopic ultrasonography at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

She joined the Division of Gastroenterology as a Clinician -Teacher in 2007 after graduating from the Master Teacher Program. She is a full-time staff at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre where her clinical interests are pancreatobiliary disease, endoscopic oncology, therapeutic endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound. Her research interests are related to endoscopic oncology and endoscopic education. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and holds an appointment to Johns Hopkins University as a Visiting Assistant Professor. She is currently the Interim Division Head of  Gastroenterology and the Director of Endoscopy at Sunnybrook. She is also the Director of Postgraduate Fellowships in Gastroenterology for the University of Toronto.
