Dr. Wadey sub-specializes in lower extremity reconstruction of the hip and knee. She completed her medical degree and orthopaedic residency at the University of Calgary. She spent more than two years at Stanford University as the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada medical education travelling fellow. Dr. Wadey also completed a fellowship in soft tissue knee reconstruction, including arthroscopy and; research in musculoskeletal conditions at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation and Social Integration at Laval University in Quebec City.

She joined Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in 2007 and is an associate professor at the University of Toronto. She will continue her role as fellowship coordinator for SBHSC/HC Fellowship Program overseeing 5 sub-sections of fellowship programs. She has completed a 7 year term as associate program director (Assessment and Evaluation) of the Orthopaedic Residency Training Program and; a 10 year term as fellowship supervisor of the Holland Centre Arthroplasty Fellowship Program.

Dr. Wadey will be commencing a 3 year term as governor – University of Toronto Governing Council, representing the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, effective September 2021.

Research Foci:

Dr. Wadey’s clinical research is focused in the area of patient education and experiences for the sole purpose of enhancing and optimizing patient outcomes. A secondary focus is on the investigation of structural and functional changes following total joint replacement surgery. The goal is to identify contributing factors to explain the effect of structure, mobility, and strength on neuromuscular function to maintain stability when walking for patients having total joint replacement surgery.

Educational Research:

Dr. Wadey’s research foci is in the area of education, primarily in the domains of:

1. curriculum development (medical student; orthopaedic resident, arthroplasty fellow);
2. centralized assessments and evaluation environments;
3. innovations in educational models and;
4. physician wellness.

The general theme is within musculoskeletal (MSK) health. Her main goal is to facilitate the development and implementation of education models and strategies to impact learner’s experiences and environments locally, nationally and globally.
