Dr. Angela Assal is a Clinical Teacher in the division of Endocrinology and an assistant professor at the University of Toronto. She attends the endocrinology consulting service, works in the Diabetes and Pregnancy clinic , and maintains a general endocrine ambulatory clinic. Dr. Assal has a BHSc and MD from McMaster University. She completed her internal medicine training at the University of Ottawa and endocrinology training at the University of Toronto. She completed her MHSc in Bioethics at the University of Toronto’s Joint Centre for Bioethics.

Dr. Assal has a passion for teaching across all levels. She serves as the Education Site Director for endocrinology at Sunnybrook and sits on the endocrinology university-wide residency training committee as well as the Sunnybrook internal medicine residency training committee. She is involved in teaching residents and medical students. She is a facilitator for the Ethics and Professionalism Seminars at the University of Toronto MD Program. Dr. Assal was the recipient of the 2018 MD Program Teaching Award of Excellence, the 2022 Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Young Teacher Award and the 2023 Sunnybrook Excellence in Education Student Experience Award.

Dr. Assal is happy to receive referrals for all aspects of endocrinology and diabetes. She has expertise in immunotherapy-related endocrinopathies and neuroendocrine tumours including functional pituitary, pancreatic and adrenal lesions.
