What to expect if your Sunnybrook doctor ordered genetic testing, and resources to help guide you through the process

You met with your doctor and had blood drawn for genetic testing due to your personal and/or family history of cancer. Here are the next steps you can expect:

1. Typically, genetic test results will be available in two to three months.
2. The results will go to the Cancer Genetics and High Risk Program for review as well as your doctor.
3. A clinical note summarizing your genetic test results and risk assessment will be available to view in your MyChart account.
   1. If you need to create a MyChart account please contact MyChart Support at 1-833-221-2202 or 416-480-6794 or by email at mychart@sunnybrook.ca.
   2. This clinical note will be shared with the doctor who ordered your genetic testing as well as being mailed to the doctors on your approved mailing list (cc list).
   3. If needed, you can also contact Health Data Records to discuss steps to receive a copy of the clinical note.
4. Your genetic test results can be uploaded to your MyChart account. If interested, please contact us by phone or email (see below).
5. If your genetic test results and/or risk assessment need a more in-depth discussion, a genetic counsellor will contact you directly. This information will be discussed over the phone before a summary/clinical note is available. If you prefer to meet in-person, an appointment with the genetic counsellor can be arranged.

7. You may receive an email from the Cancer Genetics and High Risk Program (genetics@sunnybrook.ca) within the next couple of days asking you to fill out our online Family History Questionnaire (FHQ). This information will be used to provide you with an accurate risk assessment.
