Glassy cell carcinoma is a poorly differentiated variant of cervical adenosquamous carcinoma with distinctive morphologic features. It is composed of sheets of highly atypical malignant cells with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and large nuclei with prominent nucleoli. The fine granularity of the cytoplasm is responsible for the ground-glass or glassy appearance of the neoplastic cells. Another distinctive feature of glassy cell carcinomas is the presence of a mixed inflammatory infiltrate which classically includes many eosinophiles.
