Accessible Care Pregnancy Clinic

About the clinic

We care for women who are pregnant or contemplating pregnancy, who have both invisible (disabilities that are not immediately apparent) and visible physical disabilities. Some examples include women who have spinal cord injuries, severe arthritis, spina bifida, a history of trauma such as a car accident, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, a history of amputation, scoliosis, and little people. Some mobility conditions wax and wane, such as myasthenia gravis. Mobility conditions can affect any limb or part of the body. Our patients may or may not use mobility devices or aids.

About our care »

Our care options are individualized to each woman and her family, with the goal of providing seamless and holistic care throughout the childbearing year. We offer preconception counselling, prenatal education, obstetrical care during pregnancy and postpartum care including breastfeeding support.

Sunnybrook has a team of health care staff who understand that every woman is unique and we will work together to create a pregnancy care and birth plan that is tailored to your specific needs. Our goal is to provide supportive care and a positive experience throughout pregnancy and birth. We aim to centralize care as much as possible so that if you require consultation with another specialist, it is often possible to see them in the same day and location.

Our ultrasound department is in the same location as the clinic. Appointments are scheduled with extra time to allow for transfers and are performed by an experienced sonographer. Our birthing suite is wheelchair accessible, including a room with wheel-in showers.

We welcome our patients’ attendants and/or support people.

The clinic has relationships with many community supports, including:
