Breastfeeding Centre of Excellence Research Fellowship
Sunnybrook’s Breastfeeding Centre of Excellence has as its mission the creation of best practices through clinical care, collaboration, patient oriented research and education. We will develop and disseminate breastfeeding best practices to promote breastfeeding for all babies with a particular focus on the extremely premature infant.
The recipient of the Research Fellowship will be an internal Sunnybrook candidate who is proposing research directly related to improving breastfeeding related outcomes for high-risk women and their high-risk infants.
Evaluation of submissions will be on the basis of innovation and scientific merit, potential health care impact and methodological merit.
PROCEDURE TO SUBMIT A LETTER OF INTENT
Potential applicants should submit their Letter of Intent electronically to Jo Watson at jo.watson@sunnybrook.ca. LOIs will be reviewed and graded by the Breastfeeding Centre of Excellence Steering Committee members.
The Letter of Intent should include the following information and be no longer than four pages:
- Title of proposal.
- Proposed project's hypothesis long-term goals and specific objectives
- Concise description of research design and method including past research studies that are relevant to the proposed study . Include any similar research literature that features the principal investigator or key personnel.
- Plan for disseminating results
- Relevant research partners or partner institutions/organizations
- Proposed length of the project
- Brief budget description, including projected total cost
The Letter of Intent is due May 1, 2016.
Each proposal needs to have a Sunnybrook employee as the primary applicant who is requesting protected time to complete their research project.

On October 14, 2015, the inaugural Research Fellowship was announced, with recipient Rosine Bishara, a perinatal dietitian in Sunnybrook’s NICU, to evaluate nutrient intake and growth of infants born less than 1500 grams and enrolled in the donor milk for improved neurodevelopmental outcomes (DoMINO) trial.
